Hey babes, here's a look I wanted to share from last weekend. This formula is essential to have on hand in your wardrobe because it's universally acceptable for any relaxed summer occasion.
Mid-rise shorts + a lightweight blouse tied up at the waist + platform sandals or mules.
Linen is always a classic choice. I paired it with suede shorts and mustard accessories to keep the palette warm. The options are endless for this combo. Try a modern-bohemian look with a silky paisley or floral print blouse and dark denim/twill shorts. Play around with different patterns & fabrics to switch up this formula to fit your personal style, even if you hate wearing shorts like me.. (keep reading to learn how to avoid the appearance of stumpy legs!)
It's all in the Shoes...
Fake Legs for Days.
The secret is to choose shoes that will elongate your legs with shorts. A small heel works miracles (especially if your petite) & I honestly never wear shorts without a tiny heel.
A good rule of thumb is to avoid dark ankle straps or shoes that cut your legs off harshly making them appear shorter and stumpier than they actually are. It's a subtle optical illusion to use in your favor.
If you don't prefer heels, the silk sliders pictured above are a good option to wear with shorts because the top of the foot & ankle will blend visually to appear as part of your legs.
Notice the nude straps on my sandals (below), and imagine how much harsher the overall look would appear if they were a darker shade. Call me crazy but even during winter I'll match dark pants with dark booties to adhere to this same idea.
At the end of the day, it's all about not cutting the visual flow off. Hopefully you can try this out before summers over!
